Health stuff and Burma from space among other things @ 08:14 pm

my humor: determined
the sounds of: Foo Fighters - The Pretender

"Music Hath Charms to Calm Hypertension" - WEDNESDAY, May 14 (HealthDay News) -- Italian researchers have some advice for those with high blood pressure: Breathe slowly. Turn on some quiet, rhythmic music. And watch your high blood pressure take a little tumble.
(Shame there's nothing about reversing effects of low blood pressure and vertigo in the mornings after one wakes up.)

"Women Who Exercise May Cut Breast Cancer Risk" - TUESDAY, May 13 (HealthDay News) -- New research has found both bad news and good news on breast cancer risk.

"VIEW FROM SPACE: Before and After the Cyclone"

"NEW Remington Model R-25™" - Remington is excited to announce the Model R-25, a modular repeating rifle designed for big game hunters.

"US video game sales lifted by GTA" - US sales of video game consoles and software were up 47% in April from a year before, fuelled by the release of Grand Theft Auto (GTA) IV.
(I couldn't and probably never really will get into the Grand Theft Auto video game series, but some millions of other gamers around the globe can.)

It's no surprise that AP students are hardcore.

From left to right: stuffed animal elephants in a Calculus class, today's AP Macroeconomics lesson includes three episodes of Family Guy and my browsing LJ through proxy, and a study session from Wednesday.

I really did take 5 AP classes, didn't I?
I passed 2 of my 3 exams last year, and I'm sure of at least 4 of 5 scores for this year, totaling 6 passing which would nab me the "award" of AP Scholar with Distinction.

To fellow acquaintances in the western States (or just California) affected by the recent heatwave, I part the following word to you: cucumbers.

That first article does seem like it ought to be of use to me: unfortunately the last time I was listening to some quiet, rhythmic music it was probably Omar Faruk Tekbilek and I was likely at least moderately welded to my nargile as part of the procedure. Still, shisha does help just as I’ve always found cigarillos to though perhaps by saying that it helps what I in fact mean is that it calms me down enough so that the urge to defenestrate idiots passes.

As for GTA it’s nice to see something positive reported about it since all that seems to filter through half the time are asinine assertions that it makes children violent because they can’t differentiate reality from fiction. I’ve never had the pleasure of playing any of the GTA games alas and I suspect that I’d just do poorly at them but they do seem fun if they’re anything like Postal 2 which I also never got particularly far with, mostly because I spent my time running around with a spade decapitating people and in the final battle of spade-wielding maniac vs. armed police officers I was always going to lose.

And dear me, all those photographs do look delightfully educational. I’ve even heard that the chap who writes the blog featured in the second one sometimes launches into huge screeds about political events on occasion.

Have the Zero Punctuation review there as well.

Presumably that urge to defenestrate an idiot or two involves throwing from a 4th-story window of some sort? Perhaps chucking an idiot out of a window overseeing a ravine with natural hazards is a bit cruel after all and is an urge that needs to be reckoned with quietly.

The ZP review was really something to pay attention to seeing as how I forgot about the little fact that I was having a chat with my cousin...so it ended up with:
XChocolatePagerX (12:13:13): hello?
SHINiMEGAMI xoXo (12:13:34): sorry
SHINiMEGAMI xoXo (12:13:36): watching a video
XChocolatePagerX (12:13:40): oh
XChocolatePagerX (12:13:42): ok
SHINiMEGAMI xoXo (12:13:43): anyway
XChocolatePagerX (12:13:45): on youtube lol?
SHINiMEGAMI xoXo (12:13:46): [reads what you said]
SHINiMEGAMI xoXo (12:14:01): Nah, my friends who are in UpwardBound aren't all nerdy, but they get stressed quite a bit.
SHINiMEGAMI xoXo (12:14:21): I'm watching something on GTA IV.
XChocolatePagerX (12:14:22): all nerdy. wowowow lol. what you mean ALL? lol so he is nerdy lol
XChocolatePagerX (12:14:50): oh GTA? lol never heard of it... damn i'm so outdated
SHINiMEGAMI xoXo (12:15:11): Grand Theft Auto
SHINiMEGAMI xoXo (12:15:12): Don't worry.
XChocolatePagerX (12:15:19): oh...
SHINiMEGAMI xoXo (12:15:19): It's something you don't need in life.
XChocolatePagerX (12:15:37): you steal cars and run away lol
SHINiMEGAMI xoXo (12:16:04): [laughs]
...
XChocolatePagerX (12:19:53): so you play grand theft auto?
SHINiMEGAMI xoXo (12:20:05): Never.
XChocolatePagerX (12:20:08): lol
SHINiMEGAMI xoXo (12:20:10): I can't understand those games.
XChocolatePagerX (12:20:36): you dont have to lol. all you need to do is steal steal steal and bump them and crash them and get a new one lol
XChocolatePagerX (12:20:38): lol jk
XChocolatePagerX (12:20:53): cars*

But you know, the lovely chap featured is just so adorable when he throws his little fits. ♥♥♥
On a more serious note, it's no exaggeration that there's a good chance of yours truly learning about what's going on around the globe than from any of my classroom sittings.

Come now, my dear, anything less than a tenth floor is a half measure.

As an aid to distracting you from the strange use of ‘lol’ as punctuation further the console rundown is really worth watching too, if only because it contains the line: “The player base can charitably be described as ‘lively’ and uncharitably described as a bunch of hooting dickholes” in Yahtzee's wonderfully deadpan voice.

It's funny; allegedly, the GTA series is very popular, but I can't think of anyone I know who holds more than a passing acknowledgement for the franchize. An interesting phenomenon...

Also, Watermelon > Cucumbers. :D

Cucumbers will keep you cool without filling your bladder as much.

People who play the GTA series need help, okay? That's my conclusion.

Good to see you alive, mind you.

Well, fine! Have it your way!

Well, in all fairness, they're not a bad series of games by any stretch of the imagination, I just can't think of anyone who's as enthusiastic about them as the media makes them out to be.

And likewise! Now, if we could just get our schedules to mesh properly...

My schedule is simple.

On a regular (read: school) week, between 0600 hours PST and 1120 hours PST, I will probably be on school grounds, but I will also likely be online and proxying about.
From there on, what I do varies, but it usually follows something like:
  • go out to lunch with friends
  • go home
  • stay in Bolen's room
  • do intern hours at my GP's clinic

I'm assuming you either are using Opera or a home ISP?

Mine fluctuates from day to day, so it'd be pointless to nail it all here. Generally though, I'm online between 11pm PST and 1 or 2am, whenever I fall asleep. :P

Yes, I'm using Opera on my DS, but what does that have to do with anything?

Then there's no meshing.

Shoo, disappear, ye who sleeps none.

but what does that have to do with anything?
I'm wondering because you're suddenly active on my LJ.

[coughs] We learn how to measure the mass of the elephants via integration? From foot to trunk of the function Elephant with respect to safari?

x]

This is evidence that I need to go to sleep now.

You know, my high school has a horrible firewall anyway. I've exploited it a few times. But proxy is easier. XD
